Our mission is to make top-quality full-flavour beers with all-grain recipes and lots of the best New Zealand hops. Each small-scale brew (350 litres) is fastidiously handcrafted for the discerning beer drinker. The beer is brewed traditionally, the way it used to be made before corporate marketing people and accountants decided beer should be bland and boring!
Neil is on a quest for variety so there will always be differing beers available for you to try before you buy.
All malts, and hops are sourced in NZ with the odd batch of American hops thrown in.
The brew is then left to condition for the perfect amount of time.
After the beer has conditioned and has met our strict quality control standards it is ready for you to enjoy either at The Pour House, or wherever you choose to take it! Enjoy!
This rich lager explodes with maltiness followed by a smooth finish. Our Kiwi version of Bavaria’s strong Bock lager. Five malts go into this wonderful dark brew to show that lager doesn’t have to be golden. Dare you come over to The Dark Side?
This light, golden coloured ale has a gentle malt influence and is mildly fruity from the use of fantastic New Zealand grown hops and our special strain of yeast.
Our Kiwi version of a Bohemian-style Pilsner. Riwaka and Pacifica hops give a delicate flavour and aroma to this classic beer style that is light-bodied and easy to drink.
Our version of a classic Belgian wheat beer spiced with coriander and mandarin peel picked from a local orchard here in the Coromandel. This beer is naturally cloudy and refreshingly fruity.
Based on the Belgian Blonde style this beer offers subtle spiciness and delicate fruit esters that are typical of Belgian ale yeast while appealing to our more typical Pilsner lovers.
A percentage of sales of this Irish Red Ale goes towards the Moehau Environment Group (MEG) in the Coromandel to help our kiwi's survival.
This Abbey-style ale is brewed with Belgian Trappist yeast which imbues it with fruity and spicy phenols. The rich, complex, malty sweetness comes from a generaous array of New Zealand specialty malts. A deliciously deceptive brew.
The generous addition of manuka honey from local Coromandel hives gives an unmistakeable aroma to this Honey and Rye beer. A gentle 'hopping' also allows the blend of these wonderful flavours to shine through.

We have always had that kiwi can-do mentality despite being Brits. When we came on holiday here in 2004 we felt at home. Cut to four years later with two young teenage boys Jake and Harry, we decided to move to NZ for a “bit of an adventure”. Within a year we quickly realised that although we loved New Zealand the beer scene was pretty bad being dominated by the Big Two. I have always been a home brewer (starting in my student days) so when we lived in the UK, Karen and I would travel to pubs looking for a good drop. CAMRA UK (Campaign for Real Ale) was our Bible and we never left home without it. After a year of living in NZ we decided to make our own beers but it would still be just a hobby. We soon realised that to pay for our expensive hobby we would need to sell some of it commercially. We built a garage at the side of our house in Matarangi in the Coromandel and everyone thought we were nuts! Karen would travel the Coromandel visiting bars and restaurants and offer tastings from a chilli bin. She had a 100% success rate but, hey, she can sell and it was a pretty good drop apparently.
Several years later we could not keep up with the demand so decided to open a tasting room. We spent some time trying to find a great location and eventually came across a site in Hahei. The tasting room idea soon proved to be too difficult to satisfy legislation so we had to open a commercial kitchen and serve substantial food. The tasting room soon became a restaurant and the rest is well………….. now The Pour House!
